A speculation that has traction with a section of the public in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State where scores were killed including police officers in a gruesome bank robbery has it that before the vile operation, policemen in the area received N400, 000 bribe from the perpetrators.

However, spokesman of the State Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, denied the claim.
Operators of Xontex Hotel in Igosun, where the armed robbers lodged before carrying out the dastardly act became suspicious of their guests and alerted the police at the station in the area, in turn Divisional Police officer sent his men to assess the situation Vanguard reported.
However, the officers compromised after they collected N400,000 from the robbers and told the DPO that the hotel’s guests were Yahoo boys, the paper alleged.
The report attributed the robbers’ attack of the police station and killings of ten police officers to the bribe claiming the men of the underworld were angry with the police for extorting them.
“It was not surprising that the robbers visited the police station the following day and killed about nine policemen in retaliation for collecting N400,000 from them,” the publication quoted a source as saying.
