The kidnap of seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, by a customer of her Point-of-Sale operator mother in Sango Ota area of Ogun State has taken a new dimension.

Mercy was abducted on December 23 while her mother was busy attending to customers.

Her abductor had sent her to buy him sachet water, went on to meet her halfway and vanished into the thin air with her.

In turn, the troubled mother went to report the matter to the police station in the area but was asked to pay ₦10,000 to file the case and an additional ₦30,000 to track the man’s phone number.

The action of the officers involved in the financial request have landed them in detention.

This is according to Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi.

“Otta missing girl: The policemen who demanded money before they could attend to the case have been arrested and are now in detention for disciplinary action.

“We condemn such an act and will not tolerate it. It is inhuman, apathetic, and unprofessional,” Adejobi wrote on X.com.
