Picture of the Speakership hopeful at Masjid al-Haram, the great mosque, in a piece of cloth wrapped around him surfaced online during the week generating mixed comments.

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in its reaction, laid into the federal lawmaker representing Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in a statement it released saying it was an act of desperation in his quest to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives, adding that the action cast doubt on his integrity.

It reads in part: “Femi Gbajabiamila, a born again Christian turned into Muslim for political reasons is dangerous to our democracy. Although people have a  right to change their religion, the sudden change from a Christian to a Muslim  and his umrah journey to Mecca just to be Speaker is a bad omen.

“Can we trust such a character who can change his faith for power sake?”
