A tug of war between Lagos and Ogun over the state winner of the 2020 edition of the Big Brother Nigeria reality TV show, Olamilekan Agbeleshe, better known as Laycon should pay tax to, is brewing.
This followed separate tweets by the tax agencies of the two states subtly calling on Laycon to pay his tax to them.
The first to reach out to the University of Lagos graduate was the Lagos Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, tweeting, “Congratulations @itsLaycon winner @BBNaija Lockdown edition. More wins!! We look forward to seeing you in Y2021 as you #payyourtax.”
Ogun then followed suit with OIRS tweeting, “The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service is delighted to congratulate one of our own in the State, Olamilekan Agbelesebioba, AKA @itsLaycon for emerging winner of @BBNaija Lockdown. We look forward to having a robust relationship with you in year 2021 as you pay your tax.”
Recall that lottery winnings are taxed like income. Laycon who won N85m worth of prizes hails from Ogun but lives in Lagos.
