About one hundred pregnant women in Ondo State today staged a protest at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure.

They were said to have gathered at the ante-natal section of the hospital.

Punch reported that the expectant mothers, who were in various stages of pregnancies protested against the fees being charged for their antenatal care by the state government.

According to the report, the protesters said pregnant women paid nothing for deliveries during the past immediate government but now the government took N25,000 for normal delivery and N50,000 payable for Cesarean Section saying the monies were outrageous and called on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to emulate his predecessor in this regard.

Recall that Akeredolu’s predecessor, Olusegun Mimiko, won several acclaims on account of his administration’s Abiye Programme in which pregnant women and under-five children enjoyed free medical services.
