One person on Wednesday died in Ile-Ife in the wild celebration that greeted the arrival of the new Ooni Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi to the ancient town.
The new Ooni was received at the Ife-Ibadan expressway around 2.00pm by the Ife Traditional Council and other indigenes.
Oba Ogunwusi’s arrival sparked wild celebration as indigenes roared into the street chanting, shouting and car horns blaring. In the euphoria, one person died near the Ife tollgate while several others sustained injuries in a crash involving a car.
The lifeless body of the accident victim, a man, that was by the roadside was later removed by security personnel after those who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital.
Across Ile-Ife, bars were filled with merrymakers celebrating the arrival of the new Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
