Report has emerged that Mr. David Sunday-Jatto, an Assistant Director at Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, who also died in Tuesday’s Lagos office fire was at the place to hand over to his successor.
Recall that nine persons were killed in the fire that engulfed Afriland Towers, a building that serves as offices for several organisation including FIRS that lost four staff and a branch of UBA that also lost some of its staff members.
Sources said Sunday-Jatto had been transfered to a new branch and was in the office on the fateful day to hand over to his successor when he was caught in the raging fire.
“A very unassuming person, he was just transferred elsewhere and he came to the office on that day to hand over formally to his successor when the incident happened and took his life alongside eight others” sources narrated.
FIRS management in a statement released in respect of the ugly incident described the development as a devastating loss to the agency.
“It is with a heavy heart that FIRS announces the tragic loss of four of its staff members during the fire incident at Afriland Towers, Broad Street, Lagos, on Tuesday,” the statement said.
Other staff members of the agency who lost their lives are: Mrs. Ekelikhostse George, Mrs. Nkem Onyemelukwe, a Senior Manager; and Mr. Peter Ifaranmaye, a Manager.
