The royal threat issued to Ooni of Ife Oba Enitan Ogunwusi by Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has drawn reaction from the former by proxy.
Ooni and Alaafin’s relationship has not been the best.
A fresh dispute has now been occasioned by the action of Oba Ogunwusi of conferring the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on popular Ibadan-based business mogul, Dotun Sanusi.
It spurred Oba Owoade to issue a statement on Monday through his media aide in which he accused Ooni of overstepping his bounds, claiming that his(Ooni’s) authority does not go beyond Ife in Osun State.
The monarch also threatened implicitly to turn to the court if Oba Ogunwusi did not revoke the title he bestowed on Sanusi in 48 hours.
Reacting to Oba Owoade’s threat via a statement he posted on his Facebook post, Oba Ogunwusi’s spokesman, Moses Olafare wrote: “My principal has directed me against issuing a press release on the empty threat. I beg to disappoint you, gentlemen of the press.
“We can not dignify the undignifyable with an official response. We leave the matter to be handled in the public court of opinion, as it is already being treated.
“Let’s rather focus on narratives that unite us rather than the ones capable of dividing us. No press release, please. 48 hours my foot!”
