An Islamic cleric, identified simply as Kadiri, has been arrested in Osun State for raping a minor in Ede area of the state.
The incident happened exactly at Babasanya-Araka area on Saturday.
Report said the victim’s mother had been alarmed by her unknown whereabouts for hours and when she eventually turned up she was in pain, crying, with blood emitting from her private part.
It adds that on enquiries the 8-year-old said her situation was occasioned by Kadiri who is the Imam of a mosque in the area and an Arabic school teacher.
Her revelation, the account in general circulation said, was met with anger as angry mob descended on the suspect until Amotekun operatives came in to provide temporary reprieve from the beating and handed him over to the police.
“The matter was reported, and we deployed operatives to the scene. When our men got to the scene, the Amotekun men who arrested him handed him over to us.
“So, he is in our custody already. But we want the Division to investigate before the matter is transferred to SCID. That is all that is available for now,” the Osun State Police command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi told newsmen.
