The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a special passport intervention mission in the United Kingdom to tackle delays and make it easier for Nigerians abroad to obtain their travel documents.
The move, ordered by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will see a dedicated Passport Intervention Team dispatched from the NIS headquarters in Abuja to the UK.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Sunday, the service said Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, had been directed to deploy the team as part of efforts to improve passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora.
The team is expected to arrive in the UK on Monday, August 10, 2026, where it will work with the Nigerian High Commission to clear pending applications and process new and renewal requests.
The NIS said the intervention squad will move across selected cities in the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, giving Nigerians outside major cities access to the exercise.
Those eligible for the special intervention include Nigerians with pending passport applications, first-time applicants and passport holders whose documents have less than one year before expiry and wish to renew them.
Applicants must come with completed application forms and evidence of payment to participate.
The service said details of the locations, dates, venues and enrolment schedules would be announced soon, warning applicants not to visit any centre until the official timetable is released.
“Applicants are therefore advised not to proceed to any location until the relevant schedule has been officially communicated,” the NIS said.
The immigration authority urged Nigerians in the UK to keep track of updates from the Nigerian High Commission and its official channels.
For complaints and enquiries, applicants can reach the service through passport.london@immigration.gov.ng or the NIS WhatsApp-only line on +234 916 087 8000.
The NIS also assured applicants that its digital passport platforms, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would continue to operate throughout the intervention period.
It added that the home delivery option remains available, stressing its commitment to providing faster, transparent and efficient passport services to Nigerians both at home and abroad.
