Alleged plot by some politically exposed persons under investigation over allegation of corrupt practices were said to be plotting to sneak out of the country to escape prosecution.
The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, disclosed this through the Ilorin Zonal Head of the Commission, Mr. Isyaku Sharu, when the latter received the Comptroller of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kwara State Command, Edith Onymenam, in his office.
Magu said the meeting with the top hierarchy of NIS became imperative following intelligence reports that some highly placed individuals in previous governments in the state under investigation for alleged corruption are perfecting strategies to flee the country.
“Information at the disposal of the EFCC in Ilorin reveals that these highly placed individuals are planning to use forged police reports to reapply for another international passports to flee the country in other to escape prosecution and justice.
“The Commission urges you to use your good office to place these individuals under strict surveillance,” the EFCC boss said.
Responding, Onymenam said there was no cause for alarm, assuring that the suspects would not get another international passport.
