The detainees and the deceased were all members of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, and were returning back to Benin City from a regional prayer vigil organised by the Sapele Road branch of the church when the vehicle they boarded almost got involved in a head-collision with a trailer.
According to what Esegine told his course mate, Late Chukwuka may have sustained injuries during the near miss as he was bleeding and had to be rushed to University of Benin Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
However, contrary to the claim of the undergraduate, parents of the deceased were of the view that he was murdered.
Police sources said the suspects are being investigated for murder.
An unconfirmed report added that the result of an autopsy conducted on Chukwuka’s remains suggested that he was killed.
