A combined team of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Fire Service, the Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, the State Environmental Health and Monitoring Unit (SEHMU ), the Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Neighborhood Safety Corps, Lagos State Waterway Authority (LASWA), Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Marine Police National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Nigerian Security & Civil Defence Corp and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Sunday held a multiple crash and rescue simulation on Third Mainland Bridge.
The spectacle sent fear down the spines of uninitiated road users who thought it was a real accident scene with some taken to the social media claiming there was a serious accident on the bridge.
One Hoebi Kenobi, @Crosseyednerd, said, “Nigeria is the only place I know where people drive on bridges like crazy people who don’t leave any margin for error. Just heard of a terrible accident on the Third Mainland Bridge with two vehicles fallen into the Lagoon. It’s just sad.”
One Olu Dee warned motorists to avoid the road.
“If you are coming from the Mainland to the Island, avoid 3rd Mainland Bridge, I repeat avoid Third Mainland Bridge. It is currently blocked due to an accident and vehicles are turning back,” he tweeted.
