The Police officer responsible for the killing of an electrician, Benalayefa Bako Asiayei, in Bayelsa State, has been arrested.
Asiayei met his death at the hands of the unnamed trigger-happy cop while returning from work in his vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, at about 8.00 pm on Tuesday.
The killer-cop, attached to the Bayelsa State security outfit, Operation Doo Akpo, shot the 40-year-old over N200 along the Azikoro Road in Yenagoa, where some officers mounted a roadblock.
Report in circulation, said the officers had asked the victim for the usual N200 they demand from commercial motorists but his claim that he had only one passenger made one of the officers to shoot him, culminating in his death.
The cop, the State Police Command said, has been identified and is in the process of facing probe.
This is per the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Musa Mohammed, who said, “The policeman responsible is attached to the state security outfit, Operation Doo Akpo. He has been arrested and will face internal disciplinary action soon after the investigation.”
