The Rivers Sate Police Command has launched investigation into the circumstances that led an 18-year-old boy, simply known as Confidence to kill himself.

Confidence on Friday threw
Elekahia community in Port Harcourt City into mourning as he was found dead, with a rope around his neck tied to the hook of a ceiling fan in his sitting room.

According to the community’s tradition, sacrifice must be made in matter of suicide to cleanse the land and avert recurrence.

This, the the deceased teenager’s family were made to undergo as per Punchng citing a source: “You know that sort of a thing is an abomination. So, an elder in the community went to inform the compound chief of what happened.

“According to tradition, the chief will inform other title holders in the community.

“They did what they needed to do before the body was brought down. Those who carried the body didn’t allow his leg to touch the ground.”

The report said further that the police have launched investigation into the motive that induced Confidence to kill himself.

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. It is unfortunate and we (police) have commenced investigation to ascertain what could have made him commit suicide,” the State Command Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko told the publication.
