Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnanu, best known for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has died.
The news of her death was announced on Tuesday via a terse statement shared on Instagram by her colleague Ayo Melody on behalf of her family.
The post has it that she died in a Lagos hospital.
Accompanied by a picture of the late singer and a video of her remains it reads: “With great sadness 💔😭 we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria.”
Recall that news that she had health issue emerged in October last year when she appealed for prayers and divine healing while battling a serious leg ailment.
It came via a video of a service at G.F David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo state capital where the ‘Omije Ojumi’ hitmaker was captured seated with her leg stretched out on a chair, receiving prayer from a pastor.
An intravenous (IV) cannula was attached to her hand, underscoring the severity of her condition.
Akinnaanu began singing at the age of 10, and left a career in banking to pursue music full-time.
