The scandal rocking the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu has drawn reaction from the presidency.
Edu is enmeshed in a N585m scandal arising from the leakage of a memo from her to the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mrs Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
In the document, the Minister instructed Madein to transfer the said sum meant for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun and Lagos states to the private bank account of one Oniyelu Bridget in contravention of the extant Public Service Rules.
Maiden had acknowledged receipt of the memo in a statement released by her office in which it was said she declined the directive.
However, there has unabated call for Edu’s head and prosecution.
In the latest development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the matter is under investigation, adding that on completion, “Appropriate Action will be taken thereafter.”
