The reported sack of Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu and his Defence counterpart, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, alongside Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has drawn the reaction of the presidency.
The report prevailed in the early hours of Tuesday.
Reacting to the rumour, the Special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga said it was untrue.
Onanuga dismissed it via his X handle by a tweet in which he charged security agencies to criminalise fake news and go after the peddlers.
“Security agencies must urgently take action against fake news websites and platforms and the purveyors who fail to check the authenticity of the stories and make them go viral,” Onanuga said.
He added that: “Press freedom and freedom of speech will not exist when some people can wake up and concoct their news and narratives without regard for truth. Fake news is simply licentiousness and must be criminalised.”
