The Presidency has ramped up its efforts to arrest the growing hunger by setting up Presidential Food Systems Coordination Unit.
The committe under the chairmanship of Vice President Kashim Shettima is charged with providing solution to the prevailing food insecurity and the high cost of living.
It has as members: some state governors, representatives of local governments, development partners, and other critical stakeholders.
Shettima’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, on his X account made this known via a statement in which he quoted his principal as saying: “The nation is facing a rare food security crisis and the sooner we come to terms with the reality, the better.
“Food insecurity endangers the very basis of our democratic experiment and this is why all hands have to be on deck. We are in a food security crisis but it also provides us the opportunity to re-engineer and reposition the nation on a firmer footing.”
