The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called for the removal of Finance Minister, Hajia Zainab Ahmed, over the controversial printing of N60bn by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
The controversy stemmed from Governor Godwin Obaseki’s disclosure that between N50bn to N60bn was printed by the CBN at federal government’s behest to augment the allocations in March to other tiers of government, a claim Ahmed dismissed.
Following the apex bank’s admission that it truly printed the said sum, the PDP in a statement issued by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, reprimanded the minister for not owning up and went on to call for her dismissal.
“Furthermore, for failing the full disclosure test, the PDP demands that the Minister of Finance should immediately be relieved of her position, while the President accepts responsibility for the indiscriminate printing of currency in our naira,” Ologbondiyan wrote.
