The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has raised the alarm over an alleged impostor posing as “Prof. Odong” and demanding money from students to purportedly improve their examination results.
The university said the suspect claims to be a member of its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit and allegedly contacts students, telling them their results are poor before offering to help improve them for a fee.
But UNICAL said its Security Department has established that there is no staff member known as Prof. Odong in the institution’s ICT unit.
The university said the suspect allegedly uses telephone number 08144115929 to contact students and solicit payments.
Preliminary checks, according to the institution, further indicated that the individual operates from Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, despite allegedly presenting himself to students as a UNICAL staff member.
Management has consequently warned students not to fall for the alleged scheme or respond to unsolicited calls and messages concerning their examination results.
Students were also cautioned against handing over personal information, examination details or money to anyone claiming to have the power to alter, improve or facilitate their results.
UNICAL stressed that matters concerning examination results should be handled through recognised university channels, warning that attempts to manipulate academic records undermine the integrity of its examination system.
The university said it maintains zero tolerance for unethical practices and would take appropriate action against anyone found culpable.
Students who have already been contacted by the alleged impostor were urged to report the matter promptly to the appropriate university authorities for investigation and necessary action.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students and safeguarding the integrity of its academic processes.
