A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 24-year-old Islamic teacher, Mosediq Toheeb, for sexually assaulting a six-year-old baby girl inside University of Lagos Central Mosque.
Toheeb is standing trial for sexual violation, a charge pressed by the Lagos State Police.
Magistrate Patrick Nwaka heard from the Prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, that the incident happened on May 7, 2023, and was the second time, the accused, an Islamic teacher, would abuse the victim, who was his pupil.
In her account, the court heard from the victim’s mother that on the day of the incident her child returned home with blood stains on her clothes.
She(mother) narrated that on enquiry the victim said Toheeb took her into a class and had carnal knowledge of her, warning her after the exercise to tell no one.
The court proceeding ended with Magistrates Nwaka ordering the accused remand and adjourning the matter till May June 19, 2023 after the defendant’s lawyer’s request for bail was declined.
