Former Akwa-Ibom State governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio was on Friday evening arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged N101.8 billion fraud.

Senator Akpabio arrived the commission’s headquarters at the Formella street in Wuse around 6pm to the waiting hands of operatives who ushered him into a office where he was quizzed about allegations bordering on embezzlement while he was Akwa-Ibom State governor.

However, Senator Akpabio has denied his arrest on his twitter account. Rather he wrote that he was only invited by the commission, “Senator Akpabio was never arrested. He simply obliged an invitation to come and answer some questions at the EFCC.

“Senator Akpabio has nothing to hide that’s why he walked into EFCC himself this evening to answer questions about his tenure in Akwa Ibom. “Those who are playing politics with the decision of Senator Akpabio to honour the EFCC invitation must be acting a known script.”

Meanwhile a petition against Senator Akpabio filed by a law firm, Leo Ekpenyong and Co based in Abuja accusing him of stealing tax payers’ money, financial malpractice, money laundering. illegally enriching himself, and submitted to the EFCC in June led to the former Akwa-Ibom State governor’s arrest.
