Embattled Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, Akwa Ibom State, Joshua Okpo, has slipped into coma and presumed dead after having fatal heart attack.
Mr. Okpo has been in deep shit after the Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, instituted a probe panel to investigate his tenure and how N18bn belonging to Maritime Academy was spent.
It was alleged that Mr. Okpo earlier lied to the minister that the institution was underfunded. and the minister summoned the Acting Director-General of NIMASA, Haruna Jauro, and demanded explanation as to why the agency was starving the academy of its statutory five per cent funds.
It turned out that the rector lied after NIMASA DG told the minister that the agency had regularly released money due to the academy, and had released N13bn to the institution since Mr. Okpo assumed office in 2011.
Reports have it that Maritime Academy of Nigeria rector, Joshua Okpo, was on Monday rushed to the National Hospital in Abuja after he developed heart failure.
