Redeemed Church security guard dragged to court for stealing Pastor Adeboye’s N600,000 cheque

A security guard with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Awobola Babatunde, was arraigned before an Ebute Metta magistrates’ court for allegedly stealing N600,000 cheque belonging to the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

The accused allegedly stole the Fidelity Bank cheque on June 6 at No. 1/9, Redemption Way, Ebute Metta, opened a savings account in Pastor Adeboye’s name and tried to cash the cheque before his bubble burst.

Narrating how Babatunde perpetrated the act to the court, the police prosecutor, Mr Aghoi Gbemileke said, “The accused falsely presented himself as Pastor Adeboye by opening a savings account at Aguda, Surulere branch of Fidelity Bank in his name.

“He opened the account in order to cash the cheque and convert the money to personal use.

“Babatunde also opened the account in order to be stealing money from the church as they plan to pay in more cheques,”.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, and was admitted to bail in the sum of N100,000 in addition to two sureties in like sum by the magistrate, Mrs B. Folarin-Williams.

The case was adjourned till August 4.
