A 3-year-old boy, Abubakar Usman, has been rendered eyeless after suspected ritualists gouged out his eyes in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The incident happened on Sunday, January 24, at Bula area of Jushi, Zaria where Abubakar(pictured) lives with his paternal grandmother, Malama Hadiza Usman.
According to reports, Abubakar had left home for madrasa(Islamic school) in company with his brother, Umar, and were joined on the way by other children when one of his assailants introduced himself to him as his uncle, took him aside and lured him away to their den, an uncompleted building, where they removed his eyes.
And about an hour after he was lured away, and after their heinous operation, the suspected ritualists dumped their victim on the street.
It was gathered that while Abubakar continued to cry and writhed in pain, good Samaritans came to his aid and rushed him to St. Luke’s Hospital in Wusasa, Zaria, owing to nurses on-going strike at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH).
