The Army has arrested Nwagwu Chiwendu, a deserted army lance corporal alleged of training and recruiting people into the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a paramilitary arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The group has been facing accusations of being behind the incessant violence in the Southeast, an allegation IPOB has always dismissed.
Chiwendu, according to report, deserted the army and joined ESN since January 2021, adding that man in question is IPOB’s militant arm main trainer in weapon handling, and rose to become its deputy commander in Imo State within few months.
The ex-soldier was arrested over the weekend during the burial of his father at Mbaise.
