The 16th Emir of Kano Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II has alleged that there was a plot to attack him on Sallah day.
Sanusi and the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, are both laying claim to the throne with the state government on the side of the ex-CBN governor while the federal government pitched tent with Bayero.
Both on Friday led Sallah prayer with that of Sanusi held at Kofar-mater Central Eid Ground while his counterpart’s took place at Nassarawa mini palace.
Speaking on Thursday ahead of the festival in a special broadcast, Sanusi announced the cancellation of the Durbar, a procession of horses led by emir often accompanied by music and traditional performances, that marks the Islamic holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
The development, according to him, arose from alleged intelligence bordering on plot to cause chaos and attack him.
“We have credible intelligence reports that some youths around Zage and Kofar Wambai have been actively mobilised by some unpatriotic politicians to attack us.
“Therefore, we are directing all our District Heads, Wards and Village Heads to strictly adhere to the postponement and stay in their location to avoid any unforeseen circumstances,” he said.
Recall that a joint security command in Kano had last Wednesday declared a total ban on all Sallah activities, including horse ride, car race and other Durbar related congregation citing security threat.
