The headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abuja has been taken over by
security operatives.
The development is in response to the dispute over the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting which further polarised the party.
Eleven members of the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, led by Taofeak Arapaja, Deputy National Chairman South, insisted on having the NEC meeting today contrary to the stance of six of their colleagues including the party National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum.
To the opposition, what should take place today is an expanded Caucus meeting, with both events fixed for the same time at the same party headquarters.
The ensuing bitter exchange between the warring factions created tension, prompting security operatives to wade in as armed police officers and their Civil Defence and Security Corps (NSCDC) counterparts took over the premises this morning.
Also present, are scores of thugs loitering around the party secretariat.
