Top most aspirant, thirsting after the 10th National Assembly Senate Presidency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has described the contest for the exalted seat as a war.
Akpabio, the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress and the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidate is up against elements protesting against his candidacy within the rank of the ruling APC and the opposition parties.
The inauguration of the incoming national assembly is scheduled for June 13, the day all the leadership positions are to be decided by voting, and on Tuesday during a meeting between the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, and 41 Senators led by the former Akwa-Ibom governor and Deputy Senate Presidential aspirant, Jibrin Barau, the party chairman said, “But let me warn. Don’t be late. I hope I am communicating. Don’t be late. Once bitten twice shy.”
Adamu’s comment was in allusion to the 2015 rebellion agains the choice of the party’s hierarchy that produced Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker respectively.
While remarking at the occasion Akpabio said the contest is a real rat race that has taken war proportion, saying, “I am excited that God is keeping all of you alive. This is a family and I am very proud to belong to this family.
“I want to also appeal that you not only endorse us but support us with your prayers because what I am seeing out there is that it is a war. But I see it as a storm in a teacup.”
