The rumours that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon died, have drawn the reaction of the Senate.

Gown was recently reported dead while Akpabio was said to have suffered the same fate in London hospital.

During Tuesday’s session Senators concluded that both false reports should be reffered to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, for investigation.

The decision was reached after Senator Titus Zam initiated the discussion through a motion he moved in which he decried the circulation of false reports on social media concerning both statesmen.

The senator’s call for probe into the disinformation and circulation of the fake news gained traction with his colleagues.

In his own remark, the Senate President acknowledged the reports, noting that the spread of such falsehoods had become commonplace.

“Your point of order is sustained. I think all we can do is to refer it to the NSA for investigation,” Akpabio said.
