Report that the leadership of the senate summoned members for an emergency session on Tuesday to deliberate on the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen has emerged.
The Senate had adjourned only last Thursday till February 19, 2019.
But according to The Nation, the red chamber is planning to put its holiday in abeyance so as to deliberate on the legality or otherwise of Onnogehen’s suspension by President Muhammadu Buhari.
It said Senate President Bukola Saraki initiated the emergency session and he is expected to meet other Senate officials later today ahead of the Tuesday deliberation.
“The leadership meeting is to clear the way for the emergency sitting,” the paper quoted an unnamed source as saying.
