Renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Dr Ahmed Abubakar Mahmoud Gunmi, has advocated for an amnesty programme for marauding Fulani bandits.
Gunmi made the call on Tuesday during his visit to the bandits in the forests located at both Shinkafi and Gummi local government areas of Zamfara State.
The scholar while speaking to his guests urged the federal government to build their capacity and empower them by way of training and job opportunities calling for a replication of the amnesty programme that government has in place for Niger-Delta militants.
“Let there be peace; you all have a legitimate concern and grievances, and I believe that since the Niger Delta armed militants were integrated by the Federal Government and are even in the business of pipelines protection, the Federal Government should immediately look into how something like that will be done to the Fulani to provide them with reasonable means of livelihood including jobs, working capitals, entrepreneurship training, building clinic and schooling,” he said.
