The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has been ordered to produce an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Abdulkadir Zaria, accused of coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s government.
A Federal High Court in Abuja gave the order on Friday at a session presided over by Justice Peter Lifu.
Justice Lifu in his verdict told DIA to bring the cleric before the court on February 18.
The judge held that all authorities were subordinated under the civil authority, citing the provisions of Section 36(1)(5) and (6) of the Nigerian Constitution 1999.
The arrested Sheik through his lawyers accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the DIA, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and Jaiz Bank Plc of infringing on his fundamental right and is asking the court to enforce the latter.
Earlier report had indicated that the detained cleric’s problem stemmed from a N2m, sent to his bank account by one of the military guys arrested for failed attempt to overthrow President Tinubu’s government.
