An Islamic cleric, Shiek Nasiru Bazallah was on Friday arraigned before a Kano Magistrate Court for allegedly insulting the Emir of Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi.
The emir had on Monday, May 8, in a complaint he lodged with the Kano State Commissioner of Police, accused the defendant of making disparaging remarks about him on March 20, 2017, while he was preaching.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Haziel Ledapwa alleged that the cleric incited disturbance and attempted to defame the character of the monarch, contrary to Section 114, 392 and 399 of the penal code, adding that investigation is ongoing.
But the defendant denied any wrong doing saying the allegations against him were false – hence urging the court to admit him to bail.
Presiding magistrate, Hassan Fagge, admitted Shiek Nasiru Bazallah to bail in the sum of N1million naira, including two reliable sureties.
