The crisis rocking the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, took a new turn on Monday as soldiers were deployed to examination halls to prevent the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) from disrupting ongoing exams.
The union on September 15 declared an indefinite strike over 18 months of unpaid excess workload allowances, and directed members to boycott the semester examinations, warning them against supervision of the exercise.
To ensure the protesting teachers did not stand in the way of the exams, the school authorities engaged soldiers who on Monday to provide security for students and academic staff willing to conduct the examinations.
The pictures of the soldiers at the examination halls with the students writing their papers have gone viral.
It however caught high interest online as netizens commented on it.
