The deceased, a retired magistrate, had gone to a bank along Sapele Road, Benin, to make withdrawal on October 24 when she was shot dead.
Killers of the 82-year-old had trailed her from the bank to the premises of a hotel along Liberty Avenue, GRA, where they shot her and reportedly robbed her of two million naira.
Announcing the suspects’ arrest, Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu said they were arrested four days after the attack.
Gwandu gave their names as Austin Orene, Isaiah Ngbeken and Esogie Aigbede, adding that the charges earlier preferred against the suspects was armed robbery but it would be reviewed to include murder, following the death of the woman on November 19.
“The old woman was shot and was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where she was treated and discharged after recovering from the wound.
“They were charged with armed robbery. But with this development, we will modify our case file and transmit to the DPP to inform them that she had died. So, there is an additional charge of murder,” he said.
