The senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, said it’s not only the North that would be at the receiving end in the event tax reforms sails through but also the low and middle income earners.
Ndume like most northern leaders has not minced words about his aversion for the tax proposal on grounds that it’s skewed against the North but favours Lagos.
This time, in a statement the Borno senator released in reaction to tribal slur that the north is parasitic in which he pushed back at the claim, he said, “The North will never be a parasite or dependent on any region or even the country. We are assets not liability to Nigeria.
“Those who think that the current tax reforms is only against Northern interest are naive. As it is, the law is against all the low and middle income Nigerians.
“The FIRS should concentrate on expanding the tax net and collecting more. Also, accountability and transparency should be increased.”
