Mr Gbeminiyi Arijo, father of the late Ogun SS 2 student, Monday, who was allegedly beaten to death has accused the school teachers of being found of taking alcohol in large quantity before class commences every school day.
Late Monday, a student of Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-Emi, was reportedly flogged to death by teachers in a corporal punishment that went fatal.
His distraught father said leading up to the incident, the deceased was one of the male students subjected to 40 strokes of cane and 150 frog jumps each.
In the course of receiving his own punishment, Monday’s head, according to his father, hit a concrete floor.
The injury to the head led to the death of the deceased a week after.
Mr Ariyo said the punishment meted out to the pupils was cruel tracing it to alleged drinking habit of the teachers.
This, he told Punchng, saying, “The government should do a lot more in monitoring these teachers and sensitising them. For instance, in this Obada Grammar School where my son was attending, the children told us that every morning the teachers would buy lots of actions bitter, made of alcohol, and would have taken enough of it in the morning before teaching commences, all of these should be checked. We all know how people under the influence of alcohol misbehave. The government must look into this pure act of illegality and sheer irresponsibility.”
