A love-drunk teenage girl in Gusau area of Zamfara State, simply identified as Aisha, has set herself ablaze in anguish over her boyfriend’s inability to pay her dowry.
The news of the incident was found on Dailytrust.com.ng accompanied by photos of Aisha on sick bed and before her suicide attempt.

The seventeen years old was reportedly distraught and driven to suicide after it dawned on her that her boyfriend, Umar, an Okada rider, was too poor to pay her bride price.
Speaking to the paper at the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, where she is being treated for the self-imposed injuries, “I can’t engage in pre-marital sex or commit fornication; I would rather die than do that.” “I have been in love with Umar for a long time and I learnt that he had no money to marry me. I can’t afford to lose him. I love him. I did what I did despite the fact that I know committing suicide is against the tenets of my religion, Islam.”
