Police in Ogun State have arrested a teenager, Idowu Abosede, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Aliyu Ibrahim, to death.
The suspect, 18, reportedly stabbed Ibrahim to death over an argument between her and the deceased over N3,000.
She was arrested in Sagamu.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement yesterday that the teenager used knife to stab her lover in the chest.
He said: “The suspect was arrested following a distress call from Seriki Hausa in Sagamu that the suspect and her deceased boyfriend, were arguing over N3,000 as a result of which they were struggling for possession of a knife. The girl eventually got possession, used the knife to stab the boyfriend on his chest which resulted to his death.
“On receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Sagamu Police Station, a Superintendent of Police (SP), Okiki Agunbiade, detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspected teenager was arrested. The blood stained knife which she used to stab the deceased was also recovered.”
Oyeyemi added that upon interrogation, the suspect claimed that she came to pass the night with the deceased and when she was about leaving in the morning, she took N3,000 from the deceased, but he refused to allow her to leave with the whole N3,000. They started quarrelling.
“She further stated that it was the deceased who brought out the knife and while dragging it with him, the knife stabbed him on his chest,” Oyeyemi said.
The PPRO, however, said Ibrahim’s body had been released to his relations on their demand for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
