A 15-year-old teenage girl who killed her father’s friend, Babatunde Ishola, to fight off rape has been acquitted of murder.
The teenager, whose identity is cloaked in secrecy, had on March 7, 2020 lured by Ishola to his house on the pretense of helping him to fetch water, an occasion he attempted to rape her but she resisted and in the ensuing fight she took a knife and stabbed him to death.
This led to her arrest and charged with murder following which she was arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, on March 2020.
The teenager had pleaded not guilty to the charge and on the order of the court remanded in the Correctional Home for Girls, Idi-Araba.
But on Wednesday she was left off the hook as Magistrate Philip Ojo struck out the charge sequel to advice of the state Director of Public Prosecutions citing inadequate evidence against the girl.
