President Bola Tinubu said the federal government will give posthumous national honours to 17 soldiers killed in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Last Thursday, the deceased military men met their death at the hands of violent youths in the line of duty while on a peace mission.

While speaking on Wednesday at the time he was breaking Ramadan fast with the leadership of the House of Representatives, the President paid tribute to the fallen heroes, and went on to announce plans to confer a posthumous national honours on the murdered soldiers.

“In responding to distress calls, they met the end of their lives in a savage manner. Let us work to sympathize and symbolize the fact that they are worth the sacrifices they have made for Nigeria.

“We salute all our men and women in uniform, and we sympathize with them. I will soon make further pronouncements, but they must have a befitting burial and national honours,” Tinubu said.
