Two Phone Sellers In Court Over Alleged N1.6m Theft

The dou of Adelaja Oluwafemi and Iyioluwa Ologun who are phone sellers at the popular Ikeja Computer village, have been arraigned before a Tinubu Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on charges bordering on alleged conspiracy and stealing of the sum of N1, 610, 000 million.

Both Adelaja and Iyioluwa were arraigned on the charges before the court presided by Chief Magistrate B. A. Sonuga, by the operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos.

The prosecutor, Barrister Morufu Animashaun, while arraigning the two defendants today, told the court that the defendants and others not at large, committed the alleged infractions on June 20, 2024.

Animashaun further told the court that the money stolen by the defendants and other at large, belongs to a company called Verizon Company.

He told the court that the illegal actions of the defendants contravened sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Code Law, Ch. C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. And punishable under the same Laws.

The two defendants however pleaded not guilty to the charges when it was read to them.

Following their not guilty plea, the prosecutor, Animashaun asked the court for a trial date. He also urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the conclusion of the matter.

But lawyer to the defendants, A. K. Abdulkareem, orally applied for the bail in the most liberal terms.

Abdulkareem told the court that the charge against his clients were bailable ones and that they are first time offenders.

Chief Magistrate Sonuga after listening to the counsel submission, admitted bail to each of the defendants in the sum of N200, 000, 00 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Chief Magistrate Sonuga after pronouncing other bail terms, ordered the remand of the two defendants in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), pending the perfection of the bail terms.

Charge Against The two defendants read: “That you Adelaja Oluwafemi (M), Iyioluwa Ologun (M) and others (now at large) on or about the 20th day of June, 2024, in Computer Village, Ikeja Area of Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial district, conspired amongst yourselves to commit Felony: to wit -Stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to Sections 41 lof the Criminal Code Law, Ch. C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

“That you Adelaja Oluwafemi (M), Iyioluwa Ologun (M) and others (now at large) on or about the 20th day of June, 2024, in Computer Village, Ikeja Area of Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial district stole the sum of N1,610, 000: 00 (One Million, Six Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira), property of Verizon Company and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 287 of the Criminal Code Law, Ch. C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
