UI warns female students against Rising Egg Donation for money

An alarm has been raised by the management of University of Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged rising trend among its female students engaging in egg donation as a means of generating income.

Egg donation, which provides hope for families experiencing infertility has become a means of livelihood for some ladies.

It however has its ill consequences, particularly to regular donors health wise.

Dr. Aderonke Ajayi, Director of the University Health Service, in a memo dated April 15 emphasised the importance of prioritising health over financial incentives.

“It is crucial that our students understand the health implications and long-term consequences of egg donation,” she stressed.

Ajayi in the communication, advised students to exercise caution and choose reputable clinics that adhere to medical guidelines and prioritize donor safety.

Proceeding from the untold economic hardship bedevilling most families, not few ladies are finding solace in egg donation by using medications to stimulate their ovaries to gain estrogen, a hormone that plays a role in both the male and female reproductive systems.
