United Nations human rights chief, Volker Turk, has called on the federal government to launch investigation into the gruesome murder of over 190 persons in Plateau on Christmas eve.
On the fateful day, terrorists invaded 15 communities of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of the state.
The death toll from the attack has risen to 195 with many injured, several properties razed while over 10,000 persons are said to have been displaced.
The global body weighed in on the matter as its Human rights chief, Turk, said in a statement he released on Thursday, “I am deeply alarmed by the series of attacks by gunmen on multiple rural communities in Plateau State.
“I call on the Nigerian authorities to investigate this incident promptly, thoroughly, and independently, consistent with international human rights law, and to hold those responsible to account in fair trials.
“The cycle of impunity fuelling recurrent violence must be urgently broken. The government should also take meaningful steps to address the underlying root causes and to ensure non-recurrence of this devastating violence.”
