The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin(Unilorin), Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has denied rumours making the rounds that there is prevalence of rape and sexual assaults in the school campus.

The VC during an interaction with pressmen in Ilorin said the death of a female student who was suffering from sickle cell anemia ignited the rumours.

He said, “Let me say categorically and use this platform to address parents and guardians once again that there was no iota of truth in that rumour.

“Yes, the story behind that rumour is that we lost a lady who had been on admission for four days at our clinic. I think she was a ‘sickler’ and when the clinic realised she needed more attention she was transferred to the teaching hospital.

“Unfortunately the doctors were on strike and so she was rushed to another facility. She, however, died before they could get there.

Her death coincided with that rape rumour but there was no rape on the campus.”
