The incident involving a lecturer of Obafemi Awolowo University simply identified as Dr Ariyo punching a student whose name is given as Gift has drawn the reaction of the school’s Students’ Union.
According to report, leading up to the incident, Dr Ariyo of the Department of Electrical Engineering was having a lecture with some students in a class when Gift with his dreadlocks sauntered into the class unknown to him that it wasn’t his class.
And when it dawned on him that those in attendance were not his classmates he retreated, however, culminating in the lecturer taking offence.
It developed into chaos to the point Dr Ariyo physically tried to disposses the student of his phone, got a security officer involved and was punching him.
The moment captured on camera went viral with the lecturer heard saying in the clip, “Don’t call anybody! Switch off that phone! You can’t be more than me, even if you’re the VC’s son, I won’t take this from you. Switch off the phone!”
“What did I do?” the student retorted.
Weighing in on it, the school students’ union through its spokesperson, Elijah Omisore called for Dr Ariyo’s prosecution.
Elijah made this call in an interview with Punchng saying, “We(Students’ Union) are investigating the matter. The lecturer is planning to apologise but we’re not taking any apology. We want the necessary prosecution.”
