Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its newly sworn-in substantive Vice-Chancellor, who reportedly passed away just two days after assuming office.

The deceased was sworn in as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university on Thursday, October 1, 2026, marking the beginning of his tenure at the institution.

However, barely 48 hours after the ceremony, he reportedly took ill on Saturday, October 3.

He was said to have died in the middle of the night, sending shock waves across the university community and the academic sector.

His sudden death is coming at a particularly sensitive time for Tansian University, which has recently been embroiled in a leadership crisis involving competing claims over the institution’s top administrative office. Recent reports had detailed the controversy surrounding the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eugene Okoye Nwadialor, and the emergence of an acting leadership structure.

The death of the newly installed VC, coming only two days after his formal assumption of office, has therefore added a tragic twist to the institution’s recent leadership upheavals.

Details surrounding his illness and death were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.

The university community, colleagues, family members and associates are expected to mourn the academic and administrator, whose tenure ended almost as soon as it began.

May his soul rest in peace.
