Not fewer than nine female students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, have become victims of rape and robbery.
The students, whose identities are being discussed in hushed conversations on the campus were raped and robbed of some of their belongings in the hostels on Friday.
Their assailants, according to a report spreading through the net were said to be about twenty in number and stormed the female hostel located at Ifite Road in Awka, in the early hours of Friday.
The account said, the unwanted visitors were armed with axes, knives and guns, which they let loose firing into the air.
Amidst, they paid their unholy respects to rooms, raping and robbing their victims.
Source laid it bare that one of the victims was a virgin, who they had carnal knowledge with twice. The latter, is said to be so distressed, and became suicidal by the ugly experience that she was persuaded from committing suicide.
The Police Public Relations Officer DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, adding that some suspects are in police net.
